What an amazing and interesting story. It gave me the feeling that novels like Nwaubani's I do not come to you by chance and Imasuen's Fine Boys gave me, stories that made sure I saw people and the Nigerian condition as the multifaceted and complicated things they are. Thank you Fu'ad and everyone in the small village.

This was a really good read. Society often condemns people who commit crimes but life really isn't black or white. I liked that this showed Uncle Funmi as the main character in his story. Thank you Fu'ad and the village for bringing this to life!

Another theme I keep seeing is the efficiency of DSS when they really want to be with the red flags and all

This is a brilliantly written piece of non-fiction as it explores various themes of the Nigerian society.

Sadly, not a great end for a man who had responded to life the best way he could, every inch of this story remains beautiful, however tragic.

I enjoyed this. Had to go back up after reading cos I'd missed the fact that Funmi's wife came with policemen to the guy's house to point the photocopier.

Sometimes u just wonder if a robber can be clean ever. It's more or less like a lot can't just say "it's over" despite being behind bars. They come out, and one temptation, they're back in it again.

You also have to feel for the guy's parents for trusting him so much as to leave the photocopier in their house.

Damg! What a story.

Enjoyed it!

What a great write up. This gave me goosebumps all through.

Mostly because of your intellect. I wondered greatly why you put in so much work. Also admired your mom in this story.

It's amazing how top thieves don't have their names as wanted. I really hope he was able to make that great escape and start again with his family. I also hope those who suffered PTSD from him have healed and are able to forgive Uncle Funmi, especially.

Long read but very interesting. ❣️

This was such a good read. I’ve been a fan of Fuad’s work for years.

I really hope Uncle Funmi is doing okay. The hardest part of being released from prison is the reintegration into the society.

Also, I’m so grateful for your mum. She’s part of the few people giving “the hopeless” hope.

Thank you so much for telling this story.

There’s this warmth in your writing that makes your such an enjoyable read.

It’s insane how we have to move on and still try to live life no matter the hand we’re dealt. I hope that Uncle Funmi finds peace wherever he is.
