It’s really good to hear an account of this incident from someone who took the time to go there and talk to the people on the ground. The government only seems concerned with saving face, and it’s likely that everything will get swept under the carpet with no resolution, and of course, no compensation for the victims.

Sad.

It’s a sad outcome. Thanks for reading, Lotanna.

And even sadder (or maybe a weird coincidence) is that the images returned for Sawane Youssouf bears an uncanny resemblance to this guy who released a video some days ago [https://twitter.com/X_Dailly/status/1761645200341143866?t=1VDT6nRyQxQxcQHBq4zhBw&s=19]

Which makes me think they're hiding the culprit's identity.

What a tragedy .

This is somewhat off point, but my entire life I never understood the saying “betta soup, na money kill am” and now I think because of the context of your comment, I understand what it means.

Enjoyed reading this. I liked that it was a personal account of the incident from someone in the city. It’s easy to read about an unfortunate incident online and sigh and move on. But reading about the real lives disrupted because of this incident, really put things into perspective for me. Thanks for writing this, David.

Very candid piece of writing and a very informative account of the tragic explosion. It was like I was with David every step of the way. Kudos. I hope the government investigates this thoroughly to avoid another explosion. And I hope they carry David along. Very thorough 👍

Strong work, David, Fu'ad, and everyone. I haven't lived in/near Bodija for over two decades now but it's still the place I've lived for the longest period of time, and so I was double shocked that something like this could happen there. The accounts of the slack-jaw mourning, in an unremarkable close, in sleepy, reliable Ibadan, those will stay with me the most and no government report or whitewashing will unseat those from my mind. Thanks again.

Well written by David.

Even though I wasn't in Ibadan when this tragic event happened, I have vivid pictures of how everything went down in my mind after reading this piece.

Great work from the team.
